Awaji Kawara Seam Ripper by Cohana
Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture, with its fertile soil, is one of Japan's leading production regions for "kawara" (traditional Japanese roof tiles). A seam ripper is an essential tool for cutting stitches and opening buttonholes. Its handle is crafted from Awaji "kawara."
Among the various types of Awaji tiles, a glazed ceramic tile was used for this tool. The glaze gives a smooth texture and a subtle luster to the rustic nature of the clay. Two colors are available: white and dark gray.
The handle has a rounded square shape. It has been carefully sized to provide a comfortable grip and a pleasant weight in the hand. Its shape prevents it from rolling while you work. Each seam ripper is adorned with a silk tassel enhanced with gold thread, which harmonizes with the color of the glaze. The steel blade of the seam ripper is protected by a genuine leather case engraved with the Cohana logo.

Through its handcrafted products, the company promotes these techniques and supports local communities to ensure they endure in the modern world.
Cohana takes its name from the goddess ‘Konohanasakuyahime’ of Japanese mythology. As beautiful as a cherry tree in bloom, she is revered as the guardian goddess of Mount Fuji, a symbol of Japan.
about our fabrics
For the past 12 years, we've been experimenting and refining our processes to work with the best natural fibers available. We select our materials for their durability, comfort, aesthetic properties, and the conditions in which they were produced. We prioritize suppliers located near our workshop. Many of our jerseys and knits are made in Canada, while some woven fabrics come from the United States. For more specialized materials, we work with Japan and certain European countries (mainly Italy and northern countries). It is essential for us to ensure that workers' conditions are fair, and the best way to be sure is to choose countries that have a charter of individual rights that resembles ours!
