atelier b tenth anniversary publication

$25.00

To honor the place we've called home since fall 2011, we created this tribute book. The space that had housed a hat shop since the 1950s welcomed and inspired us, and we nestled all of our project's activities here, from sewing to parties to acoustic performances.

"When we wanted to have a street-front space, it was to welcome clients, but it was also to entertain and create a gathering place," recalls Anne-Marie.

The book that resulted from this celebration of place is a quality design object, with its cream linen cover and raw cotton bookmark, just like our clothes.

Folded inside the book is the workshop apron pattern (the one we wear to work in!) and all the instructions for making it. The object with graphic lines can also be used as a poster.

96 pages, printed in Montreal, on Rolland Enviro100 paper made from 100% post-consumer fibre. In French.

A decade of design and meetings

The space is multi-functional and the design and manufacturing workshop cohabits with the boutique where we welcome you. Rolls of fabric sit next to fitting rooms where we cut, sew and sell our collections. On our walls, works of art that change according to the seasons and collaborations. This mix of culture and couture makes the place lively and unique. Much more than a boutique workshop, the space is used to welcome our community during events organized spontaneously at 5758 Saint-Laurent. A musical performance by Choses Sauvages, the launch of William S. Messier's book Dixie or Jimmi Francoeur's photography exhibition are just a few of the dozens of events that have taken place at the workshop.

A publication with the image of atelier b

The aesthetic design of the book is signed by François Ste-Marie, where the dynamic and playful layout is in our image. It includes a text by Maryse Boyce, who discusses the musical performances at the workshop and who has spoken with many of the artists who have attended. For Laurence Lafond-Beaulne, who presented the first performance of Milk & Bone, "it's magical, as much for the artists as for the public to see these shows: it gives access to a hyper vulnerable moment". The artist Marjolaine Bourdua wrote an article that tells the story of the atelier b gallery, being herself the last to have exhibited there at the Old Montreal address. Anne-Marie Proulx has interpreted in her own way the identity of atelier b with sensitive and delicate words and images. The images of Maxyme G. Delisle, a faithful collaborator of the brand are also highlighted.

about our fabrics

For the past 12 years, we've been experimenting and refining our processes to work with the best natural fibers available. We select our materials for their durability, comfort, aesthetic properties, and the conditions in which they were produced. We prioritize suppliers located near our workshop. Many of our jerseys and knits are made in Canada, while some woven fabrics come from the United States. For more specialized materials, we work with Japan and certain European countries (mainly Italy and northern countries). It is essential for us to ensure that workers' conditions are fair, and the best way to be sure is to choose countries that have a charter of individual rights that resembles ours!
