Je laisse les enfants disparaître
Je laisse les enfants disparaître
Without a child running ahead, where do traditions go? Like a quilt, Marise Belletête's poems pick up the lost thread of heritage and put the work of time back on the loom. Like Penelope, the poet weaves and unweaves the memories of a childhood that slipped away, becoming both the daughter of an unlikely lineage and a ghostly mother. Little by little, the loss gives way to an inhabited silence, that of a female filiation linked by grandmother's recipes and by the varicose beauty of scars. Je laisse les enfants disparaître is a collection of unravelled hems and traumas darned in lace.
