House book by Merchant & Mills
HOUSE is a collection of inspirations, ideas and patterns for the home. This book was born out of the success of our PDF pattern bundle The Grove Creations. The Grove Creations contains patterns for the home that we designed while renovating The Grove, the Merchant & Mills house in Rye.
In addition to the original patterns, the book contains new and unseen patterns and an exploration into the importance of handmade in the home: Carolyn shares the story of The Grove and the process of renovating and designing a home around our fabrics; we share an interview with Victoria Barker of Faeger, an interior designer and an expert in creating both residential and commercial spaces that put handmade in the spotlight; we talk about why we champion natural fibres in both our homes and wardrobes, not only as a more conscious and sustainable option but also a practical and beautiful one.
"Soft furnishings are a brilliant way to develop your sewing skills and start experimenting with textiles. When designing the projects, I thought about simple makes for all skill levels, including those who maybe wouldn’t attempt to make their own clothes but could start with a cushion or a topper. In this book we will work through the patterns, adding new techniques as you gain confidence.” – Carolyn Denham
The instructions for seven sewing patterns live inside, illustrated by inspiring photographs of each pattern made up in signature Merchant & Mills cloth:

about our fabrics
For the past 12 years, we've been experimenting and refining our processes to work with the best natural fibers available. We select our materials for their durability, comfort, aesthetic properties, and the conditions in which they were produced. We prioritize suppliers located near our workshop. Many of our jerseys and knits are made in Canada, while some woven fabrics come from the United States. For more specialized materials, we work with Japan and certain European countries (mainly Italy and northern countries). It is essential for us to ensure that workers' conditions are fair, and the best way to be sure is to choose countries that have a charter of individual rights that resembles ours!
